DeskMatch works because hosts and Desk Heroes look after each other. These are the simple expectations behind the DeskMatch Trust Standard — not a heavy rulebook, just the basics that keep every visit safe, clear and welcoming.

What we all agree to

  • Be honest — listings, requests and messages should reflect reality.
  • Be respectful — treat everyone you meet through DeskMatch with courtesy.
  • Keep it safe — follow fire, access and emergency guidance on site.
  • Keep it local and above board — no discrimination, harassment, or unlawful use of a space.
  • Communicate through DeskMatch so introductions and bookings stay on record.

For Hosts

You stay in control of your space. Hosting well means giving guests what they need to arrive prepared and leaving them confident they are welcome.

  • Only list space you are allowed to share, and set rules that suit you.
  • Give clear access instructions so guests know exactly how to get in.
  • Share the safety basics — fire exit, assembly point and an emergency contact.
  • Keep the desk and shared areas clean, working and as described.
  • Decide who can book, and let guests know about any restrictions up front.
  • Check your own insurance, lease and building rules allow occasional guests.

For Desk Heroes

A desk in someone else's space is a shared trust. Turning up prepared and respectful keeps hosts happy to welcome you back.

  • Complete your quick induction before your first visit so you know the safety basics.
  • Arrive within your booked times and stay in the areas you were offered.
  • Respect house rules — noise, calls, kitchen, meeting rooms and guests.
  • Use the guest Wi-Fi and never poke around a host's internal systems.
  • Leave the space as you found it, and report anything broken or unsafe.
  • Keep confidences — don't photograph or share a host's space without permission.

Safety always comes first

Everyone visiting a space should know the nearest fire exit, the assembly point, and who to contact in an emergency. If someone is in immediate danger, always call the emergency services on 999 first.

When something isn't right

If a listing, host, Desk Hero or visit doesn't meet these standards, please let us know. We review concerns and can pause listings or introductions that put the community at risk. These standards sit alongside our Terms and Acceptable Use policy.
